Clensing ( washing your face )  

Cleansers : Cethaphil , Phisoderm, 

• Splash warm water on your face
• Dispense product on your palm
• With your finger tips , use upward and outward motions to apply product 
• Once you scrubed your face . rinse it away with warm water
• Take a towel and pat face dry 

Toner : Is debated in the beauty industry, I personally think it does a great job getting rid of excess dirt and restoring PH balance in your skin. If you want to skip it , Ill leave it up to you . 

Burts Bee's Toner ,witch hazel are my favorites though what you have on hand is good.

• Wet a cotton ball with warm water
• apply toner to cotton ball 
• Using upward and outward motions 
• Avoid eye contact 

Exfoliate : This is extremly important , you only have to do it 2x's a week. Since you shave it is a form of exfoliation your doing it already . Exfoliation is extremly important. 

St Ives Apricot Scrub is my favorite 

• wet your face with warm water 
• Take a quarter size amout of product 
• apply it too yout finger tips
• in circle motions apply the exfoliant
• avoid eye area 
• Take a warm wash cloth and remove the product 
• Rinse face with warm water to get rid of grains
• On days you exfoliated do toner after 

Moisturize : Very important , even if you have oily skin or acne .What happens is the sebaceous gland (gland that secrets oil and keep skin protected) sees that your skin is dry , goes in too panic mode producing more oil to protect your skin. I know if your skin is oily you want to dry it out . Its very important to moiturize . It keeps the gland at bay and my reduce your break outs or oily feeling. 

Dispense product on your palm using upward and outward motions 

• With your finger tips , use upward and outward motions to apply product 

So this helps you get started or if you have gone pro a little brush up for you . If you have any questions more than happy to assist 

Saturday Sheet Masking

On Instagram you have been seeing people wearing sheet masks. This is now a two year old trend. I've been wanting to try , while in target the other night. I found a whole bunch of sheet masks . I will say that the prices vary. The mask I purchased was $1.80 USD . The weather extremely cold this evening in the northeastern United States. What a perfect night to mask.

The mask feels like the texture of a moist towelette, slight oily consistency. The smell is a robust coconut, the package says the smell of vacation I agree. 

 

 
 

I applied the mask it's was cooling and soothing on my dry combination skin. The mask did slightly feel intense when I applied it . I put on some music for ten minutes, dreaming of beachs,warmth and summer vacations. When I removed the mask my skin felt tacky that soon disappeared. My skin felt glowing and soft . I'll say I'm a fan , also eager to try more.

Did you know there was a color of the year ?  I was familiar with Pantone from my time volunteering with Dress for Success Worcester's Marketing Committee.  I love this color can already see a gorgeous lipstick created in its likeness. So now let's see how many products will be dripping in gorgeous Marsala in 2015.

Bitten Lip Inspired Makeup Look ( Requested Repost 2011)

( I forgot that I had bling like acrylics that year ) 

I'm working on a Duran Duran Inspired Makeup look . It's just not ready so I though since my new addiction Revlon's Just Bitten Lip Stain and Balm has rocked my little world. Thought we'd take a look at it show you a basic look .

With a little Parisian influence for the bitten lip is worn in France. Our post Come Celebrate French Style and Culture we touch upon the bitten lip.

You first apply the stain which is forgiving in the fact it gives you time to remove if you go astray. ( I've never been a color in the lines sort )  Then you apply the balm is nourishing and prevents the cracked lip look. There is no lip plumper in this product. So don't be afraid due to the name " Bitten" It doesn't sting

Old School Bitten Lip

1 . Exfoliate your lips of any feathered skin ( brown sugar , aquaphor , and a warm cloth should do the trick)

2 . Apply a lip liner 3 hues darker then your natural lip color. I start of dark on the edges get lighter as I work in so it has a gradient effect.

3. Apply a neutral or clear gloss

PTB : How did you get started in the makeup business?

JK: I started out in the industry as a model, but I was never really comfortable – unlike my little sister Jodie! When I discovered what it was like being on the other end of the make-up brush, I knew I'd found the right career. I was lucky to work as an assistant to make-up supremo Mary Greenwell for five years and was then spotted by Premier Hair & Make Up Agency and taken on their books in 1999. Since then I've worked with leading fashion designers, photographers and a host of prestigious magazines, including American and British Vogue, Vanity Fair and Elle. I have also written a weekly beauty column in the Mail on Sunday’s YOU magazine for the past six years. In 2003 I founded an academy in London to train professional make-up artists and to offer a range of make-up workshops for women of all ages. I have also created three distinctive make-up ranges – Jemma Kidd Make Up School (launched 2005), Jemma Kidd PRO (launched 2008) and JK Jemma Kidd (launched 2008) – which are sold throughout the UK and US as well as in Australia and Hong Kong.

 PTB: What do you see being the next big trend for fall makeup?

JK : I’m loving the Sixties aesthetic that was seen on so many of the fall 2011 catwalks, from Anna Sui and DKNY in New York, to Moschino Cheap & Chic and Blumarine in Milan. This season the trend has been reworked through modern eyes: simple feline flicks, sultry winged eye shadow and doe-eyed Bambi lashes. To recreate the look try my new Sixties-inspired JK Jemma Kidd I-Sculpt Shadow & Liner featuring an innovative slanted liner to create precise lines and a complementary shadow perfect for sculpting the socket line. JK: As you reach your later 30s, switch from out-and-out glitz to subtle shimmers that are more flattering and wont point out any fine lines around the eyes. There’s no need to stop wearing strong colors though. Pale skin, dark smoldering eyes and red lips can look inappropriately ageing when you’re 20, but in your mid to late 30s the Hollywood seductress style comes into its own for evening. Explore the benefits of high-tech anti-aging ingredients. Crème blushes and undereye concealers in hydrating and firming formulas will help to retain a youthful radiance

PTB: Where do you look for/find inspiration for your fall JK makeup line for Target? What are your influences? Do you have specific styles that you enjoy more than others?

JK: I draw inspiration from everywhere: fashion shows, films, books, design, art, nature, different cultures, people, photography…  I find inspiration all around me.

Lace-Front Eye Brow Wigs

Have I been living under a rock ? The night bra of two years ago sent me through a loop , such as this new find has.  While browsing Refinery 29 an article caught my eye . These lace- front eyebrow wigs are quintessentially based on false eyelashes.  In this excerpt from the Refinery 29 article they explain what a lace-front eyelash wig actually is .

"What, exactly, is a lace-front brow? Consider it the little sister to the lace-front wig, which is composed of real or faux hair sewn into thick layers of lace. The wearer slips on a wig cap, applies some glue or tape, and then affixes the wig. The brows work pretty much the same way: Itty-bitty pieces of hair are sewn onto the lace in the shape of brows. They also mention in the article that women who have undergone chemo therapy are benefiting from the lace-front eyebrow wig.  I wonder though do they slip during the day.

 I've had some really embarrassing mishaps with ban lashes. You can purchase the lace-front eyelash wig online they are widely available. Maybe spunky super model Cara Delevingne will maybe develop her own line of eye lash wigs ,  based on her own signature eyebrows ? I guess there is a cornicopia of options in reguards to these eye brow wigs.   You can even make your own thanks to the plethora of YouTube tutorials out there. So would you rock a pair of these lace-front eyelash wigs ?

 This is a love story of a girl who meets the right lipstick. You notice it across a crowed makeup counter. The name of this lipstick was Velvet Orchid . Though it pains me to admit it I only tried Velvet Orchid for the name. I thought it was a merging of Andy Warhol and Nick Rhodes two iconic men of inspiration ( did I just write that oh well its done) . My love affair with Velvet Orchid was to be sweet and brief for the Queen Estee Lauder banished it too the land of discontinued. Now to see my sweet love I must go to eBay to find the surviving tubes who evaded the exile.   I think of a quote from another man of inspiration William Shakespeare. In the play Romeo and Juliet  the pinnacle story of unrequited love when Juliet says "What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet."  .So there you have it my favorite lipstick Velvet Orchid  by Estee Lauder. Parting is indeed such sweet sorrow.  I've posted some snaps of my happy times with Velvet Orchid. I got one tube in the freezer for a special occasion.

When Charlie Brown and Lioness sat in the pumpkin patch waiting for the great pumpkin to visit. They were disappointed that the Great Pumpkin didn't leave toys for all the good little children. Well they were mistaken he did leave the good little boys and girls gifts. Pumpkin has allot of gifts for all the girls and boys . One being its benefits for our skin. I decided we'd talk about some of the attributes of pumpkin. Its not just for pie and jack o lanterns. Maybe you'll think twice about letting one decay on your doorstep this fall. I would recommend  making sure your hair is pulled back away from your face when doing this. Its awful sticky in the hair . Give it a try . When your shopping for the fixings for pie grab yourself a can for your face .

I think its a no brainer here we had to have bold eyes. I wanted to the eye to be playful with vibrant pink an purple bursts of color. I matched the best I could the Duran Duran All You Need Is Now cover art . This eye also is sexy an wearable . The version in the photo's below would be if you were going out to a party or concert . Though you can blend it down for the office .You can add glitter for extra sparkle .( my bathroom has not recovered from red carpet massacre so I omitted it here )  So your mission if you so chose to complete it ladies. Is to rock out this look out an memorize those men in too full on girl panic .

I used allot of fake blood to look like I had been through a Red Carpet Massacre. I didn't feel it proper to post such images. Duran Duran Inspired Eye #2 All YOU NEED IS NOW

All You Need Is Now is Duran Duran's newest album. Its being said that it is the follow up to Rio . I have felt like a Teenager again grasping at any little track they will let us hear. About two weeks ago Simon Lebon and Nick Rhodes were guests on Mark Ronsons radio show on EVRadio. I have to say this was one hell of a show. They premiered a song called The Man Who Stole The Leopard. I thought about this song for days. Knowing that a leopard theme would have to be incorporated into this eye. Don't forget to download there album on Itunes. Even if you aren't a Duran Duran Fan. Its worth a try ..  ( I came out yellow Ill get the new camera settings right eventually.  )
Duran Duran All YOU NEED IS NOW inspired eye .

This eye was built using a very basic pin up makeup. I wanted to make sure that pink was incoporated in the look seeing that the cover art has a vibrant hot pink. Pink ended up being the perfect highlight to my leopard spots .The one thing you have to remember when you do this look is leopard's spots are not perfect.

How to Follow a Makeup Tutorial on Youtube

Youtube is probably one of the most powerful tools for the DIY (do it yourself ) community. Especially makeup community inpaticular. You have everyone from Professionals, blogger, drag queens,makeup junkies teaching you the tricks of the trade.
  
For a makeup novice a 5 layer eye tutorial must seem daunting. Especially when brush numbers an crazy products are being thrown at you. When you get more acquainted with the makeup world. You'll become more comfortable buying brushes an product.  Remember this is the place we answer all the question your afraid to ask. I have received allot of email about youtube tutorials. So let's try this one together.  Emily is a Youtube guru she is also a news women. I like the way she uses drugstore products in some of her tutorials.  This is a good one to try an most likely you already own what is needed . Morning Makeup Makeover ( Getting Out of a Rut )

   I have been in a morning rut taking the option to sleep rather than do full makeup in the morning. At times like this I'm greatful that I participated in No Makeup Mondays . I was wondering why this basic morning task had become so overwelhming for me. I didnt have to go very far to find out why? Like my purse my makeup bag had beacome a demented game of I spy. Coupled with jet lag an things going on my life that havent let me slow down. I am to be simply put in a rut.

So I decided that I needed to find some kind of order in this ciaos. I wanted to invent a morning routine that was simple basic an could be done while the coffee was perking. My old one was just too much . Here is a picture of me using serveral types of concealer. I was making this harder on myself than it had to be.

The Product's

You don't have to use the same product this is just an example. Rest assured I get no freebies doing this blog. See we do the pop culture , music thing too. So makeup companies aren't that eager to hand over the free stuff. I'm not promoting anyone this is just what I use.

Eye Shadow :  Tokidoki Cromatico Eyeshadow Palette - Bastardino

This quad has what I need the basics with a hit of sparkle. Yet it is appropriate for work .

Eyeliner : 1 liquid liner , 1 creamy eyeliner pencil

Concealer :Boots No. 7 calming eye concealer  I use my concealer as my eyeshadow base also.

Mascara :Estee Lauder  Lash Primer Plus & Double Wear

Foundation: 1 Daywear Moisture Tint . Using your foundation blended with moisturizer will do the same thing.

Powder : Use loose powder to set it an forget it .

Lips : Lip liner  , Stilla Lip Glaze : Kitten

Brushes: Large Blush, Concealer, med eye, large eye, eyeliner brush, With the exception of the eyeliner all my brushes are Estee Lauder . Eyeliner brush is Debra Macki's my makeup teacher .

I posted a youtube makeup tutorial's to show you how to build the eye. The Makeup Geek is one of my favorites. She is friendly an great for beginners. This eyeliner tutorial is excellent .

 This is what I came up with with practice you can get everyday makeup application down to about 10 minutes. Let's hope this breaks me out of my rut. Hopefully this was helpful I forget some of you are just getting into makeup. I was a late bloomer too so I understand how it is all a bit much. The Real Beauty Movement

   



   When I was in Aesthetics school , I took a job at a makeup counter. I was very heavy at the time and was shocked I got the position to be honest.(before my 90lbs weight loss ) My first week on the floor after learning the ropes. I finally got a chance to take a breath and look around. Was I dreaming but each counter had a look in beauty advisor. As I made friends with the other girls in the area. I learned I was on the old lady /fat girl counter. I can't tell you who the companies are . I will tell you if you go to any high end department store's makeup dept. You can figure it out pretty quickly. I soon learned, as I went out too many salons seeking work. All the talent in the world wouldn't help me. If I didn't fit the look they required. I interviewed a high end Boston salon. Who was thrilled with my resume and skill set. When I went for the face to face the salon manager couldn't hide his disappointment. Asked me if I'd like a job in the basement of the salon answering phones. This made me doubt my talent as an artist, most importantly my value as a women.

So this brings us to the topic at hand, beauty discrimination. I think this problem is indeed a global one. The way you look can effect what you earn, relationships, etc. Makes one think has the world gone mad ?  This morning while on twitter one of our favorite tweeps is Kate from Eat The Damn Cake Posted a News Week article on Body Bias written by Dahlia Litwick here's a little excerpt of the article. "Meet Deborah Rhode, a Stanford law professor who proposes a legal regime in which discrimination on the basis of looks is as serious as discrimination based on gender or race. In a provocative new book, The Beauty Bias, Rhode lays out the case for an America in which appearance discrimination is no longer allowed. That means Hooters can’t fire its servers for being too heavy, as allegedly happened last month to a waitress in Michigan who says she received nothing but excellent reviews but weighed 132 pounds. And the top management at Abercrombie & Fitch couldn’t hold weekly meetings, as they allegedly did, at which photos of its sales associates were reviewed and purged for any sign of breakouts, weight gain, or unacceptable quantities of ethnicity." There is good news slowly but surely, the real beauty movement has started. One site which I think embodies this whole movement is Alexis Wolfers The Beauty Bean . This site is amazing in the positive well balanced message in which is sends out too all of its readers. Makeup Free Monday movement is amongst our favorites. I have posted an excerpt for you to read about the movement.
