Hot Holiday Gifts

Image via JCPenney  I Heart Ronson " Cadillac Sweatshirt "
Pop Trash Beauties Top 3 Picks Holiday Gifts (That are actually cool)

I’ve been lurking the internet far and wide making my list, checking it twice. I’ve assembled my top 5 picks for Holiday gifts.

Charlotte Ronson is part of a very famous musical family. She went in a different creative direction. Ronson has had an interest in fashion since she was a child.  She graduated from New York University majoring in Studio Art and interned with Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone and Cynthia Rowley. Her designs have been worn by such celebrities as Micha Barton, Kate Moss, Ellen Pompeo, Nicole Richie, Samantha Ronson, and Gwen Stefani to name a few.

Thanks to the inception of I Heart Ronson collaboration with JC Penney in 2009. The collaboration is still going strong .

"samantharonson Me and my baby. ️ @charlotteronson @cjronson @jcpenney #iheartronson #cadillacronson make sure you get yours! And when u do, tag me in your photo so I can see!!! " ( Via @samantharonson Twitter )

You also can wear the Charlotte Ronsons stylish designs too. She made this adorable sweatshirt in honor of her twin sister Samantha’s dog Cadillac.

Those who follow Samantha on social media know Cadillac. She posts very adorable pictures of him snuggling with his mom , to videos of him playing hide and seek. Cadillac Ronson should have his own sweatshirt. His Proud mama Samantha Ronson has been tweeting, instagraming about the sweatshirt. ( I don’t blame her if my cat Bubba was on a shirt , Id do the same) . Even celebrity friends such as Drea Dematteo and Ellen Pompeo have been striking a pose in there Cadillac sweatshirts. I choose this for my list because it encompasses a love of family and pets. The price point and quality is good.  I've purchased I Heart Ronson before the quality is extremely high. I like the fact there is also a story with this shirt. The dog is actually someone’s fur kid. I just ordered mine can’t wait for it to arrive.

Update JCPenney.com is sold out

Retro Candy Box

One upon a time there was a miraculous concept called penny candy. Everyone had a corner store in there hood. Where you could stock up on, the essential sweets of childhood. (I remember when my mom sent me to the store to get her cigs and milk, imagine that happening in 2014)
Well you can relive your childhood once again in a Retro Candy Gift Box.  While in Maine for some Christmas shopping at the outlets in Maine Kittery Outlets  (If you visit New England make sure you check it out, especially the makeup outlet) I went to Yummies Candy Store discovering this gem and so much more. The Retro Candy Box retails for 24.99 , this will surely be a fabulous gift

Novelty Socks

Who doesn't like a good pair of funky socks? Especially for the folks with strict corporate dress codes. A lot of times knowing you have Garfield socks on underneath it all (The No Doubt Song “Underneath it All “popped into my head too. This could go on all day. ) I find Etsy really has a vast selection of novelty socks. Here are my favorite sock shops ..

Favorite Thanksgiving Grub

Pop Trash Beauties Favorite Thanksgiving Grub

It’s that time of year that Americans take time to reflect on what we are thankful for. I will say I've always been relatively good cook. Some of my best learning experiences have been over holidays. In college I tried to help a friend cook a turkey for her family. We ( A) didn't defrost the turkey properly so had to leave it in the sink with running water over night ( yes that was not responsible usage of water. ) (B) We left what is traditionally called the giblet sack in the turkey. This was in the 90’s so we didn't have a computer to ask. We were too proud to call our parents. So we called the Butterball hotline. This hotline isn't an urban myth. The battle of the turkey was lost but not fondly forgotten.

The Butterball team is available to help you Monday - Friday, from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. EST.
Call 1-800-BUTTERBALL (800-288-8372)
* Option 3 - How to prepare and serve your holiday meal
* Option 4 - Butterball Products-Promotions-Nutrition-General Topics

My family is very casual at Thanksgiving we don’t sit at long grandiose tables with candles adorning centerpieces. When you come to a Thanks giving with us no matter who is hosting. You’ll walk into a active kitchen. Basically roll up your sleeves you’ll have a job. Here is some of my favorite food. ( I understand that some of this food isn't politically correct) . Just some classics that I have fallen for over the years. We are very blessed to be able to have abundance and family in this day in age. I've hyper linked the recipes for you.

Jell-O Cake  We can usually tell how potential spouses will fare in our family, on the reaction to the Jell-O cake.

PIE (except minced meat, my aunties say when I get older I’ll love it. Since I’m kissing 40 soon don’t think it’s going to happen)

Ocean Spray Canned Cranberry Sauce (Jelly)

Julian Lennon Everything Changes Signed Box Set (Review)

Julian Lennon Everything Changes Signed Box Set (Review)

Julian Lennon Photographer/Philanthropist/Musician has release the Everything Changed Signed Box Set. I was very fortunate to have a sweet friend gift it to me for Christmas. When I opened the box set it becomes immediately apparent Lennon’s meticulous attention to detail, in his assembling this multimedia feast for the music geeks soul.

The beautifully bound booklet houses the box set. Each section is gorgeously illustrated.   When I went to play the vinyl record seemed almost like sacrilege taking sliding out of its sleeve. Vinyl is meant to be played, Everything Changes sounds killer in all the right ways on vinyl. The Butterfly artwork throughout the box set is gorgeous. Each with its own theme, I see something different every time in the butterfly illustrations. The acoustic version of the album is gorgeous in sound and quality.

The DVD is rich with interviews, music videos including the documentary called Through the Picture Window. The documentary really ties in all the facets of this box set in my opinion.

When you visit  www.Julianlennon.com he gives you the opportunity to Preview the set via a  Virtual Book   Which walks you through the box set via a slide show.

"Behind Julian's music I discovered a story that's never quite been told; of constant collaboration, quiet perfectionism, fierce loyalty, frustration and sabotage then humble brilliance, and the steady facing down of mis-conceptions, of which there are many"
-Dick Caruthers  ( Quote via   www.Julianlennon.com )

My conclusion is that even though you may think this box set is a bit pricey Julian Lennon gives you a lot of value for your money. Including the fact it is hand signed its amazing. I recommend this set for all my fellow music geeks out there. This truly will keep you happy for years to come.

Pop Trash Beauty Netflix Picks for November 2014

My Netflix Picks for November 2014

Television Shows

“ Call the Midwife, based on the best-selling memoirs of the late Jennifer Worth, tells colorful stories of midwifery and families in London’s East End.”
“Full of zesty humor, great characters and glorious dialogue, it’s about timeless love in a very modern setting. Childhood sweethearts Alan and Celia, both widowed and in their 70s, fall for each other all over again when they are reunited on the internet after nearly 60 years “

Detectives and crime lab technicians use the latest and most fascinating procedures to solve crimes in this documentary-style show.
Set in Seattle, Washington, the series follows the various murder investigations by homicide detectives Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman)
Wentworth could be a substitute for all the  Orange is the New Black fans waiting for the new season. “The series is set in the modern day and centers on Bea Smith's (Danielle Cormack) early days in prison. Wentworth is filmed on a purpose built set in the suburb of Clayton. It has received a mostly positive reception from critics and the first episode became the most watched Australian drama series premiere in Foxtel history.”

Movies and Documentaries

My Insights Beauty and Fashion Culture for November.

Baby its Cold Outside

Here in the Northeastern United States Jack Frost is making his yearly appearance. Has emerged from his hiatus robust and smarmy. So here are some tips and insights into the beauty and fashion culture this November.
Brown Riding Boots – I own a pair of riding boots, though they have never been in the presence of a horse. (I liken it to the sex wax fad of the 80’s, were we wore the t-shirts yet never surfed or snowboarded) I live in the circumference of a couple colleges. So I’ve witnessed a lot of these boots everywhere.
UGGS - I’ll confess right now , I was never particularly fond of these boots. I thought they would have gone the way of predecessors Timberland Work boots, Birkenstock ( with socks ) . I was wrong we are going on almost 7 years there still a staple amongst women. My friend let me try hers on and take them for a test walk. I actually like them. Warm yet you have the agility of a sneaker. On the fence may buy the payless version.

Dresses and Sweaters – I’m in the doctor’s office reading an old Glamour magazine. There was an article about different ways to style a dress. They said to put a sweater over your dress. How had I not thought of this before?  This is brilliant on “Laundry Day “you look pretty snappy rocking this look.

Tassels – Fashion Royalty has deemed the tassel the trend of the fall and winter. Embroidery floss is about to get popular again. All the DIY crafters will be hoarding it . Then again this fad could just sail past us without making its mark. Keep your eyes open for colorful tassels shall be adorning accessories near you.

Sugar Lip Scrub/Lip balm – I’ve been making this for years though my recipe has changed. My shameless plug is about to commence. I will be selling my lip scrub in a candy cane flavor and lip balm in my Etsy shop. I will be offering the scrub in Candy Cane and Vixen Vanilla. Lip balms are Cherry Ice Cream Smile, Candy Cane and Bubblegum Pop.  I’ve also got  a lippy in development named for this blog.   Popchicboutique.etsy.com (available on 11/22/2014)

Mixed Media Scarfs – Scarfs made of yarn , tulle , gauze and various other materials. This is a trend amongst my friends and I. They are bright multi colored and fun. The genius of this scarf is you can wear it with your winter coat and also at work with your outfit. I really love love this item.

Dark Plum Lipsticks – A big cheer from all the “ Rum Raisin “ lipstick fans of the 90’s.  On trend also in my heart of hearts a staple. I love a bright lip it makes your teeth look whiter. Something about the pop of color warms up my sallow ( yellow undertones) complexion.

DIY – It’s funny how innovation has brought us ahead in so many ways. Though by nature there seems to be a growing movement of people that are making their own products. Laundry detergent, baby food, cosmetics and so much more.

Retro Cooking and Baking –  We are going back to basics it seems along with that is an emergence of retro food from the 50’s . Instead of trimming the fat people are making these as they are intended back in the day. This peaked my curiosity so much so my Christmas cookie this year is going to be The Scottish shortbread Petticoat tails . Click on this link to learn more Cookbook Archaeology : Petticoat Tails

What My Dearly Departed Laptop taught Me

I learned how to do everything from my iPod Touch . I've decided to read more books. I'm less interested in celebrities, brand ambassadors , bands, dj's . I find it gives me a sort of cool rep " yeah I don't have a computer" I liken it to our beloved hipsters saying " I don't have a TV. " I actually don't have one of those either anymore lol I listen to NPR a lot also there is a lot of weird stuff on AM radio . I just realized why I've been accused of being a hipster. I don't have a car, television and computer because Im poor. I shop at thrift shops and upcycle everything for the same reasons. I used to drink PBR because its cheap. Well at least I have my iPod keeping me connected to things . Hey I was being too cool for school unbeknownst to me. I've got some really fab posts coming up just thought I'd say hello.
