The Art of Not Doing a Blog Post

It is 1:24 am EST time . I had a very good radio show almost ready for bed. I say good night on all the facebook pages and twitter. Then as I'm making a cup of tea an contemplating what to do before bed. I'm on a night time tea kick lately decaff of course.

I realize that I haven't written a blog post this week. So I troll the usual sites to look for ideas. The posts in my drafts really aren't ready for human view. I have an early breakfast meeting my auntie, class then errands tomorrow followed by production work for the show. I know that I cant not post. Its the same principle of that sink of dishes you leave for the morning. You lay in bed thinking about till you get up and do them. I sit here getting getting sleepier by the moment. Everything I want to write about will have me up till 4:30 am .  So what should I do ??  I decided to tell you about 5 random things because its Pop Trash Beauty I can do that .

I purchased a new toothbrush today for 1 USD plus tax

I have found cocoa butter creme for winter. I put it on in the morning after the shower. My skin stays hydrated the whole day. It also reduces the appearance of stretch marks over time . Its called Queen Helene Coco Butter Creme

It was 60 degrees out today which is scary on so many levels . So I splurged an bought a large ice coffee

I am fascinated by Bacteriography take a look at this slide show. This former microbiologist turned artist Zachary Copfer . Make beautiful images out of bacteria such as e coli.

I know my musical taste kinda seems to be all over the place. One artist I have always loved is Eminem you wouldn't know it with my love of all things new romantic and Madchester. I got a deep love for old school hip hop , Grunge , Pop , R& B , Classical , Country ( Johnny Cash era) , Punk. I've just started to make friends with Jazz to be honest it wasn't really my thing.

Having the Courage to Wear my Tiara

Well the other night while playing the song Primadonna by Marina and the Diamonds on my Radio show. I posted on our facebook page about being a primadonna. As women of the world its a weird thing that there is some shyness associated with embracing your inner primadonna . One of my listeners said it is wired in a women DNA . I told them in solidarity I would post a picture of me in a Tiara. One given to me by my co-workers at my former job. What bothered me is this the fear that grabbed a hold of me when I posted the tiara picture. Who was I to be posting a picture of me in a tiara. Normally I would just do it on a lark have a good laugh with everyone move on. I got an extremely hurtful email basically tearing me to shreds earlier that day. Having a blog you get hateful stuff once in the while its part of the world. Though this effected me deeply which is weird. I to be honest didn't even want to do my show that night. I was cringing at the thought of the promo photo being posted. I didn't want to be seen heard just wanted to disappear. I had just had my first dose of cyber bullying a couple weeks ago. I had a group of supporters who stood by me during that time , yet in the same token there was this feeling of being alone. I think all of it had taken a toll on me.

In putting myself out there to achieve something. I had now been targeted by jealousy. Jealous of what I thought I'm out of work trying to keep my life together by a thread. I work for many hours a day to get a job. Work on my radio show for free am blessed to have this internship. Fear had shown up and it got me. I soon found this strength in me that I hadn't had in a longtime. It was more important that I embrace that inner primadonna that the tiara picture needed to go up. I was going to do the show upbeat have fun with my listeners. I was going to be seen and heard in a tiara no less. The picture was well received by my listeners now some of them are going to buy one. I found it empowering to have faced a fear moved past it . I think in everyday life we all have those times we rather just disappear. What I learned is that those are the days you need to show up. You not only show up but you shine bright. I'm glad I did hope this helps you do it too. I always have a song that pulls me through, I found it in Destiny's Child  " Survivor " I will not tell you how many times I played it that day. It was just what I needed to pull me through. Music therapy at its best .

Whats in my Purse 2013

I do this post every year seems to be a favorite . I honestly sometimes rotate from a messenger bag to purse. I thought I'd show you my messenger bag just to spice things up. I was at the thrift store looking for a backpack or some sort of sachel to tote around with me. When I found a brown funky Eastpak messenger bag with original tags for three dollars. Eastpaks are expensive thought the design wasn't my usual taste. I decided its function and quality out weighted the aesthetic of the bag. Kinda the same principle as the ugly winter coat that is the warmest over the cutest. I found over time I grew fond of it actually people would tell me out and about " cute bag" .  In urban living I find it handy can be worn close to my body. I can rush around with ease with out looking after a purse.

Whats in my bag ?? ( Not everything is in the picture )

  • Hand Sanitizer ( Flu prevention riding public transit its a staple )
  • Hat
  • Wallet

Random Life Post : Cute Cookies

Who likes to go to the doctor? I say depends on the visit. After being sick with cold and tonsillitis this winter. I have been a frequent return customer. After my appointment I went to the snack bar to get a coffee for my trip home. When I noticed so cute cookies they made me smile. Even busy doctors rushing by looked down at them and smiled. A group of nuns hovered over them trying to figure out the recipe. In the 80's once a month my mom would have her friends over for coffee. Id liken it to a PTA meeting with attitude. They sometimes would hold a dem for makeup or Tupperware.  The morning of these gatherings we would go to this bakery to get little pastries for the get together. She always let me choose a cookie from the case. They were cute cookies too . Cartoon characters of the time drawn in frosting on a sugar cookie. I always opted for the Cookie Monster or Big Bird. I always looked forward to it they had pink pastry boxes that they would tie up with string ( I just started humming The Sound of Music "Favorite Things " )  We always seemed to get the same women she'd take a little box for mine to make me feel special. My mom and I would walk out of the bakery I felt grown to be carrying the same pink box in hand as her. When I saw the cookies they gave we the warm feeling of childhood. Even though money is tight I bought one . I opted for the pink poodle it made me happy for some reason. No cute pink box just plastic wrapping into my purse. Yes the adult in me was admonishing me in my brain. Not the time to be impulse shopping. I ignored it for a moment decided to just let my 2.00 purchase ride. It seemed to lift my spirits on a day that was gloomy and rushed. When I told a friend she said only you would buy a cookie because it was cute. I got a little peer teasing as to tell me it was ridiculous. Then she softened said to me" I bought a little smurfette the other day to make me smile in my cubical , so you have cute cookies I have smurfs. So I think everyone has something "   So what is your something ?  Is there that little item that you see or have seen that just brings you a little happy ?  This is indeed a very random life post but it has been a while .

Beauty without Makeup Discussion ( Huffington Post Video )

I really like this discussion on the Huffington Post Live ( I'm addicted to Huffington Post right now ) I really like what they had to say about makeup being a tool to give you confidence. Do you go out without makeup ? Do you ever find yourself limiting your self because you don't look a certain way? I love this discussion so much having a man chime in is wonderful.

My makeup wearing habits very. Id like to say my morning routine as of recent is too wash my face put moisturizer on. I wear a tinted lip balm and mascara.  I just try to look well groomed that I did something. In all honesty with being unemployed I have to watch the product usage right now. I actually enjoy it more then the work makeup process.

One of the reasons I write about beauty is too empower you to try new things. Not to feed into this unrealistic image that the media has made up. Confidence is better then any beauty product in my mind.

I spent too much time comparing myself as I younger comparing myself to my friends. Christina Huffington made reference to "Compare and Dis pare" in this video.  I was always a curvy girl so I always felt different. I would never feel as pretty and would wonder how they would ever hang out with me. Id try so hard but I never thought that I looked normal. Spend hours in front of the mirror thinking " Why can't I get it right " . I look at pictures of myself now from that time. I say " man I was cute what was my problem ? " I found liberation in my late 20's that I was just me. I looked as makeup as a tool. Started to let myself have fun with instead of it being a pressure it was liberating. Especially after studying professional makeup artistry. It just boils down to something I learned this spring " Love yourself , As you are now" I say it every morning even when I don't want to look in the mirror . I hope you enjoy the discussion tell me what you think.

Art / Film : Trash Dance ( Beauty of Garbage )

This photo from We Jet Set Magazine

When I read something online that screams blog post. I must at all costs write about it especially a documentary named Trash Dance.  Choreographer Alison Orr found the beauty in garbage trucks , and the men and women who drive them.  She followed the lives of these sanitation workers trying to convince them partake in a dance of the garbage truck. This is one documentary I want to see. Here is the trailer to the film

"A choreographer finds beauty and grace in garbage trucks, and against the odds, rallies reluctant city trash collectors to perform an extraordinary dance spectacle. On an abandoned airport runway, two dozen sanitation workers—and their trucks—inspire an audience of thousands."  ( via Trash Dance website )
I haven't seen the film but will be looking for a screening in my city for certain this spring . Her are the detials on how you may have the film experience of Trash Dance

In Spring 2013, Trash Dance will be released in theaters and on DVD.

Happy Birthday David Bowie

Photo via  / http://davidbowie.tumblr.com/

David Bowie is turning 66 today what can we say about this icon and innovator. After a ten year absence he has emerged with a new song and album. How great is our beloved Ziggy Stardust to give us a present on his birthday .David worked on the song  " Where are They Now ? "   in Berlin where he has lived for the past 3 years. Working with noted producer Tony Visconti. Its a slow haunting song which for me seems to be a song of reflection. There is an influence of Berlin in the video as black and white images take you through Berlin in the 1970's

Bowie released his album " Reality " in 2004 but due to a heart attack all promotion of the album came to a halt. Bowie spent his time away taking care of his youngest daughter Alexandria . Also an accomplished painter spent his time painting . NME just reported that some of his earlier works fetched up to 6,500 British pounds at auction.  You can view the paintings on  NME   View David Bowie's Paintings HERE
The paintings date from the 1990s and are signed on the back. They were created as part of Bowie's 'D-Heads', which he worked on prolifically during that decade. They sold to an unnamed collector from London at the sale, which took place last week. ( Via NME )

The song is now available for Download on itunes today , While the album The Next Day will be available hits stores first in Australia on March 8, the rest of the world save the U.S. on March 11, and then Stateside on March 12.

One of my favorite bloggers on the The Huffington Post is  Talk Nerdy to Me by Cara Santa Maria .

I am an emotional art lover for certain,  I look at a painting it connects to me usually something at relates to my life experience. In the same token what I want in the future . I also like not only the beauty also art that is ugly and confuses to me its a sodku puzzle for my brain. Take a look at this video you'll never think of the Mona Lisa the same way . So what do you think is Art more about science and how your brain fires or emotion ?

New Year , New Undies , New You !

new bra new you

The new year is the perfect time to do some inventory of the underwear drawer .  Is the elastic shot in your panties ? Your breasts not lifting and separating ?With gift cards from Christmas its a good time of year for you to update your undies. Lets face it as women we are the last person to take care of ourselves. We will make sure everyone else has proper socks and underwear but us ,we always wait . Some cultures bring in the new year by buying new underwear. I always do a posts on the right fitting bra. Its estimated that between 8 out of 10 women are not wearing the right size bra. You can buy the most expensive clothing. Yet you wont look the best you can without buying ,good fitting underwear . A good bra fitting is amazing and Ill tell you I wont go back after know my right size. If you're a bit shy about the fitting no worries. They see so many breasts in day then we will in a lifetime its no big deal. Here is a video if you want to attempt it yourself

For a step by step guide visit  Womens Heath Magazine

How Long Should you keep your underpants ?

Well I asked friends surfed the net there wasn't really a definitive answer. What I learned was your the judge if the elastic is shot , you can see through the material , there are wholes and tears . Its probably best to retire them.

New Years Underwear
( Id like to thank Talia for bringing this to my attention )

In Mexico, Bolivia and Brazil  if you wear red underwear you want to bring love into your life. If you wear yellow underwear is brings you luck. There is versions of this tradition around the world . Though I think I might adopt this tradition.
