I love looking at global beauty rituals. What is strange to us is normal somewhere else. While researching this post. Women have been doing some pretty strange things over the course of History to be beautiful. During Elizabethan time women took arsenic to achieve a pale complexion. Random Life Post : Birthday Brunch

I sit here later then is recommended for a women that is having people to brunch. My Moms Birthday is Today ( Happy Birthday Mommy ) . So here I am at 1am writing a blog post. My house is clean streamers hanging proudly around the house. Its a quiet brunch with a few friends and Aunties. I asked my mom " What you want to do for your Birthday"  I want to have brunch at your apartment. It's been a long time since I was asked to host anything. Since I'm single living in a small apartment. I felt this little surge of pride swell up.  My family was trusting me to host. It will be pot luck yet I'm making waffles and fratata . Don't let my nerves get you, I'm a slamming good cook. My mom was concerned you looking in my fridge today. " Do you only eat Hummus ? "  I told her that I'd pick up what was needed today at the market. " You're not going to serve people string cheese , carrots and hummus ?"  She was a little concerned by my lack of things in the fridge. I have friends over for dinner all the time. Yet entertaining for your family the bar is a little higher.  I have already set the table set up everything to go. What the comfort of you're family is everything conceivable if it goes wrong. They will assemble like a team of Aunties. We will end up with comical stories to re hash at the next event.  So I've been entrusted with music duties for this special day. I don't see why because everyone will be talking. My mom a child of the 1940's wants a mix of Glen Miller, Elvis, The Beatles, Lucino Pavaratti , Andrea Bocelli , Bon Jovi . Yes I didn't get that last one wrong. She is in love with Jon BonJovi , yet when I played his albums as a teen. That was just noise that I was told to turn down. She read a magazine article about him in People magazine 7 years ago. Well from that day forward it was all about BonJovi. " BonJovi sets his tour around his kids school schedule" . "Does Duran Duran have a soup kitchen like BonJovi ?" I will not go on extolling the virtues of one called Bonjovi. Though I gave her all my CD's a couple of years ago. So keep your fingers crossed that I am able to pull off brunch. I will make sure to wear my hair curly not straight the way she likes. I will take down the art that disturbs her. Most of all I will love and Thank my Mommy for just being the most strong Independent women a girl could look up to . Geek Me Beautiful

You always been a little different ? Well join the club of Geek Chic. If you read this blog this certianly isn't a surprise indeed. I'm very proud of the fact that I geek out. I'm not a geek in the avenues of gaming or Anime. I still struggle at Super Mario Brothers, though rest assured I get my geek on. I was ever so excited to hand in my science project every year at school. If I had been better at math a marine biologist . So if you wanted to join the order of the geek , here are things you'll need. We could do a Series to really get into this culture. Though a taste of geek was in order.

Vintage /Camp

When your in the geek chick contingent. You are graded on creativity mostly. Labels don't bring you status unless there over 20 years old. Your handbag should be quirky or old this is crucial. In the camp genre you can sport statement t-shirts . Usually the statement t-shirt should have a statement that normals don't get. Though while your in the local coffee shop, you get a wink slight laugh " cool shirt" . Most of the time this is something you cooked up on Cafe Press at 3am.

Geek chic ladies will come after me for this , though I think it is important to know. It doesnt matter how old or young you are. A Hello Kitty statement piece is always a must . Not too much Hello Kitty never ever. Your water bottle at work , lip gloss , purse , wallet . I always find smart geek women always have a little of the Hello Kitty. Its almost as a secret code to each other. Though you walk a fine line when you dabble with the kitty. If you go overboard it negates the statement . All other characters in the Hello Kitty family are acceptable.




Dr. Who

Yes if you are geek you must know. Who Dr. Who is ?  ( yes that was fun) You must be able to make Tardis jokes. " Well I'd like to ride around in his Tardis "  You must be able to make references to before and after Tennant statements. Then you must have a love of David Tennent in all his future endevors. This meerly scratches the surface of this devoted fan culture. You should also know what Torchwood is this is crucial. Let's take a look at the Chris Moyles as he rides the Tardis







Red Lipstick 

Most geek women have a signature red lipstick or  Rosebud Salve. It depends if your rocking the plain Jane look . We are looking at the other end of the spectrum where your all about the makeup. We usually rotate into the genre of rockabilly or pinup when make up happens. A bright red lippy makes most women feel like a vixen ( yes sometimes for me) Most of the time red lipstick makes me feel like a super hero.

Super Hero Crush

You usually have a super hero crush. I crush on The Green Latern to be honest. I liked Superman growing up . Then Aqua man who I still believe fancies Wonder Women. Though in my 30's the Green Latern floats my boat.


Period Drama's

We knew the allure of period drama's before Downton Abbey. Especially if there British and long we like them an awful lot . ( umm that didn't sound right)  Moving forward with the advent of social media more geek ladies and gents are finding one another. Twitter parties held by Public Television makes it very interactive. I won a Jane Austen action figure during the run of Emma. Which is my favorite , though I have had a thing for Mr. Darcy in the past. Mr. Knightly is my Austen husband , to be honest I do need a little scolding now and then. Though a kind heart and patience is also a virtue. He has them all but alais he is fictional. Maybe a real life prototype exists if you do call me.

It is geared towards my geek tribe. Which usually like a 80's brit rock groups with devotion. Read Jane Austen books . We also could be called an Anglophile's . Embrace your geek goddess.

Global Beauty : RIO+20 United Nations Conference

This is very important my beauties , earlier this month we did a post .  Where you were able to pledge your support for your earth. So I wanted explain to you why this is so very important.  Why should you care ? " Isn't it just a bunch of hippie tree luggers getting together to bitch about the earth. " or " There isn't even a problem the earth takes care of itself" . I've heard both of these arguments. The earth has enormous regeneration capabilities this is true. Accelerated industrialization has lead to a decline in the health of our earth. What would happen if you decided to not clean and maintain your home?  You would adapt in the beginning wading through trash. Maybe a nail or two to secure a loose board. Then over time you wouldn't be able to move , your roof would cave in from disrepair. Then you'd move to another house and start over. The earth is our home we can't move anywhere else. Last time I checked they haven't built on Mars just yet. So you understand why maintaining your earth home is just as important as your domestic home. Lets talk a little about RIO + 20 this is taken from the official website.

I wanted to share this youtube with all of you. I have mentioned this video in a previous post because I love it that much . We will have a a next our very own tutorial in the next post. Where I will introduce you to brushes.  I had a pro makeup artist ( who is actually practicing there craft) take a look at the video. There are revisions that need to be made. So I wanted to post this youtube show you how my go at it went . I know you were concerned with the brushes needed. This look is done with Q-tips . When you go through the video pause it at each section as needed.  This smokey is super easy to do . Give it a try let me know how you do. I've done this look so many times. I think it will be the eye you have been requesting. Emily is a news Anchor who shows us this technique. She is a youtube guru and one of my favorites.
