Duran Duran Valley of the Dolls

I am a duranie if you couldn't tell. I try to explain how they inspire me artistically. Well they posted two gems to there facebook page. This might give you some insight to why this Pop Trash Beauty loves her Wild Boys. I almost feel like they are my cool arty big brothers. This blog is changing as you can see there is plenty of room for everyone. Duran Duran came to me in a time in my life. That I was very broken . Through there music they made me feel good. It was a happiness that made my heart smile.( sappy but true) Over the years they have brought so many blessings into my life. I would like to show an example of why this freaky arty geek loves them. Nick Rhodes so needs to do an episode of Robot Chicken.

Here is my little Duran Peep inspired Video.

Insomnia Beauty

So you had that late coffee . Maybe you took that late afternoon nap. If you like me your body is tired yet the mind won't shut down. I've mediated to become relaxed yet an hour later I'm up. What do I think about while staring up at the ceiling ( I've had a list fixation lately indulge me )

  • I bargain with hours , If I get 3 hours that will be okay.
  • What if I did a series of paintings featuring face painting
  • I haven't posted that video youtube yet ?
  • What if I don't find a job ?
  • My bathing suit is too big from last year.I'm going to the beach in couple hours
  • Why did all those dolphins die in Peru ?
  • Should I go to Duran Durans appearance at GMA in June?
  • Will Julian Lennon hit 200, 000 likes on Facebook ( go like him his page is awesome, I'm there too much)
  • Crop circles why are they mostly in England ?
I didn't promise you all that they would be profound by any means. Though it is what goes on as I lay in my bed. I have to detox from twitter this is a given. People are way too interesting to talk too. So you have had a night like this let me show you some tricks that might take the sting out . I like to call affectionately the day of the walking zombie.

Green Tea Bags- Take two put them in hot water  , like your steeping them. Then remove them put them in a sandwich bag pop them in the freezer. In the morning put them on your eyes. They are anti inflamitory with reduce the puffy look.

Water - Drink allot of water .Keeps you hydrated makes you feel more human.

Coffee- Venti , Non fat , Quad latte please.

White Eyeliner- A little white eyeliner on the inner corner of your eye helps.

Jumping Jacks - I learned this one from the Beauty Bean . Do jumping jacks when you get up. Do them everytime fatigue hits . They will help you push through it.

Disclaimer - Let friends that you will be interacting with during the day. That you didn't sleep the night before it helps when your yawning. Or zoning off during conversations.

These are just a couple that get me through the day of the zombie . Which is among me now . The birds chirping the light is pouring in the windows. My ride for the beach will be here in two hours . So maybe some of this helps. Yes music always helps me out .

Yes, I am using the old Arizona photos. I just miss the Frank Zappa poster lol

This is in my morning rotation while I'm getting ready

What is Eurovision ?

sonuç ne olursa olsun, #eurovision dan en azından böyle bir k... on Twitpic
Picture via : Twitter  Jedward : What are they wearing? They look like the
Ziggy Stardust twins . I will admit they are adorable

Being a pop culture geek it seems really odd , how did something like Eurovision escape me? Last year I logged into twitter noticed Duran Duran's front man Simon Lebon tweeting about Eurovision. So I found the live stream and joined in. I will tell you that if Simon is tweeting during an award show. Even if your not a Duran Duran fan you need to follow him. His commentary is really like nothing you ever read. He tells it like it is , with a touch of irreverent wit. You have to laugh most likely you were thinking it too.  Even public figures such as Piers Morgan retweet him. Enough about Simon lets talk about Eurovision.

What is Euro Vision ?
Euro Vision Song Contest is a competition held annually consisting of the European Broadcasting Union ( EBU)  Each member of a country submits a song to be performed on live television. Then votes are cast too determine the best dong of the cometition, Eurovision is one of the most watched non sporting events internationally. Since 2000 the show has been available on the internet. Would you like too know that ABBA were once Eurovision contestants. Well you'll see at the end of the post why this is a bit cathartic. This was two years before I was a twinkle in my moms eye.

What I love about Euro Vision .

I love the fact that you have established artists and new artists. Everyone from Englebert Humperdinck who represented the United Kingdom. Then you have this act from Russia which for me is a prime example of what Eurovision is all about. You have to see it too believe it , let you know I love these women. I am buying this song on itunes.

There is a  boy band favorite on Eurovision. Jedward seems to be one of those acts that came into the mainstream. What on earth are those poor boys wearing ??? This is why we love Eurovision it is just fun.

How do they vote for a winner?

This part I really didn't understand at first. So I took this excerpt from wikipedia
"Historically, a country's set of votes was decided by an internal jury, but in 1997 five countries (Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom) experimented with televoting, giving members of the public in those countries the opportunity to vote en-masse for their favourite songs. The experiment was a success, and from 1998 onwards all countries were encouraged to use televoting wherever possible. Back-up juries are still utilised by each country, in the event of a televoting failure. Nowadays members of the public may also vote by SMS, in addition to televoting." ( via wikipedia)

Honestly there is so much more to Eurovision this is a brief look at this contest. I decided next year we will do a more indepth coverage. A friend of mine on Facebook said that the best way to understand Eurovision is to just go with the flow. You should just have a good time in all honestly . I have been blessed to make friends from all over the world from twitter. Its cool to feel like we are all hanging in my living room. Cheering on our favs and in just going with the flow So who won ....Sweden check it out .

Duran Duran Supports Planet Earth

Icy Mother Earth

Duran Duran and Cold Play have pledged there support for a better earth. We need to show love for our mother earth. We inflict so much damage on the earth. We have to get involved .

"Pledge for a better Planet demands change from world leaders to ensure a healthy planet for future generations. ZSL is taking the Pledge to the Rio+20 Earth Summit in June 2012. Make sure your voice is heard by signing now: www.zsl.org/betterplanet "  ( via the ZSL website )

I've taken an excerpt from the ZSL ( Zoological Society of London )  This is what your standing up for when you sign the pledge.

"In 2002, one hundred and eighty-eight countries promised to significantly reduce the rate of biodiversity loss by 2010. But nothing changed. The loss continues unabated. Now one hundred and ninety-three countries have promised in Nagoya to halt the loss by 2020. These promises too will be ignored unless governments are held accountable.
"We demand that world leaders sign a binding commitment with us directly—a contract with the youth of the world.
In this contract, we demand a commitment to meet - by 2020 - the key targets agreed in Nagoya, particularly:
1. To reduce or stop the loss of biodiversity.
2. To stop the extinction of species.
3. To reduce pollution to safe levels.
4. To restore and safeguard ecosystems and the services they provide.
5. To manage and harvest fish and shellfish sustainably without damaging the marine environment and ecosystems.
6. To ensure that terrestrial and inland waters and coastal and marine areas are sufficiently protected and are managed effectively and sustainably.
7. To conserve and restore nature and living organisms so that they can withstand and help to combat climate change and desertification. ( taken from http://www.zsl.org/ ) "

Please take the pledge for a happy and healthy earth . While you're pledging enjoy some musical entertainment from our friends at Duran Duran who sing about the planet. They look quite fetching in those dishy little outfits .
Thank you for your support

We love the unique projects here at Pop Trash Beauty.( I found out about this project via Julian Lennon's facebook page. ) Especially when there is an artist who believes so deeply in what they do. That they self fund the project making sure that the message stays true. Harris is a illusionist who travels performing his artistry around the world. He shows his audience through his skill as an illusionist, how easy it is to be deceived in this world. His show changes lives many leaving his show ask if there is a dvd copy of the show. They know someone in there life that could benefit from this message. Harris is an illusionist who tells the truth about lies. Let's take a look at the trailer for this powerful movie.

Here is an excerpt from the website explaining why they are doing this. I've also posted a video from Harris explaining the project. This is a great opportunity to be a part of this project. If you are unable to contribute money. They ask you to spread the word about the project.

Almost 20 years ago now, my grandmother left a small box of magic tricks under the Christmas tree.  At 9 years old, I could have never expected that simple gift to begin a journey that would take me literally, around the world, and eventually, to this moment."  (via http://www.kickstarter.com )

Joyeux Anniversaire 37 Years Old

I usually do a birthday post every year. I use it as a bench mark of sorts to look back on my life. What I realized that " Birthdays are gifts , not a promise " I had two people near and dear to me pass this year. I was instantly changed by this. I don't want to make this post a somber one. I decided to celebrate a fabulous 36th year on this earth. I had allot of fabulous things happen too me this year. One surprising thing is I realized that I really liked the women I am becoming. My niece has helped me realize this the most. The way she asks me questions only a 4 year old can. This time in life I have most of the answers. I helped her get over her fear of bugs by teaching her about the ant colony in her yard. It is funny for the ants must think there in ant heaven. She now leaves them food outside there ant hole. Her mom texted me a a picture of a piece of bread outside the nest.
My nieces ants eating a fruity pebble

I've been sharing allot on this blog in the past month. I am surprised by this though I fought it then I though well this must be a creative thing I'm going through. My way of looking at things is sometimes you share things. You help someone else going through the same thing. I feel like Im getting my sassy geeky ways back. Though I will see this through so without further some great things that happened in my 36th year of life

  • I got over my fear of youtube videos . I'm not Felini though this was a big fear. This was my favorite

  • My face painting was chosen to be on tour with Duran Duran ( I'll never get tired of that )

  • Traveled to NYC two times this year . This is a big deal too me .

  • Duran Duran retweeted our blog post on Concert Fashion Fun ( I never thought it would ever happen )
  • Spent quality time connecting with my family.
  • Took an interview with a magazine about this blog. I'll tweet it when it comes out.
  • Jemma Kidd did an exclusive interview with us .
I just want to say Thanks as always for reading and loving the geek I am . Despite my artistic crisis in all . I appreciate being a part of my Duranie family. You all support my blog . With all of you is where I belong.

Michael Franti is such a wonderful artist and guy . One of those songs when you have a rough day sets it right. When want to simply just dance your arse off works equally as well. I'm singing ((( ALL THE FREAKY PEOPLE MAKE THE BEAUTY OF THE WORLD ))

Heaven is a Disco

I am writing a post to apologize for the delay in cracking the eye shadow code ( countour / smokey eye) . I am having allot of problems with the video. I shot it upside down no matter what I do . I can't get it too snap back. Tonight I recorded a new video am in the process of editing the final product. In some ways its a blessing for it came out better then I thought. I still have issues with seeing myself on Camera . Yet I think the process I teach is much easier to understand. This is in high demand at the present.  Well with the summer off what have I been doing . Spending way too much time on the internet to be honest. I think if you are twitter friends or facebook friends you see this. I will admit its escapism in the utmost degree. One thing my friends have noticed is my increased presence on a certain man scarf wearing musician photographers page. I keep saying that I will detox off his page.( I will go one day cold turkey see how it goes)  I think Duran Duran might have missed me so( isn't delusion so very comforting) I'll have to check in with them.

original still picture from the smokey eye video ( yeah I like glamour glow)

In other news I am going to be volunteering for some non profits in my area. Keeping my skill set up to date , helping people. I need a place to go everyday to be honest . I can't do this stay at home crap for very long. So while I am looking for a new job to call home. I will at least be busy meeting people and learning. I haven't been sleeping very well , which my career counselor said is normal. So at least a routine might help me out with that.

I am very sad to say we have lost allot of our 1970's and 1980's pop music icons in past months. I think of being a little kid and listening to them on 8 track with my mom ( yes I am 36 , I was alive when 8 tracks were in use) . When I sat and thought about it Heaven must be a version of Xanadu. Like a Studio 54 without all the you know naughty business. Today Robin Gibb went too the Disco in the sky. I'd like to think Dick Clark is announcing everyone's arrival. While one amazing band is taking center stage. Angels with glitter hot pants do the hustle. There is a little bit of everything ensuing. The music goes on for an eternity.  There is no illness, addiction, anxiety, depression just pure love and peace. Dancing singing making joyful noise for there home. I have been become all too familiar with saying goodbye. I like too think of death as see you later. Keep the records spinning for me someday we will all dance together.Thank you for your patience on cracking the eyeshadow code . Seriously any reason to post a Olivia video. ( love love her )

Donna Summer

Donna Summer you were an amazing strong women to look up too. I remember rollerskating down the side walk singing your songs. Dancing around my living room with a hair brush. In a spring that has brought allot of sadness. I want to celebrate your vibrant talent and innovation.  In celebration of your life , I will put my extra sassy lipstick and dance with full on Diva. You'll be missed and never forgotten.

Change ( VLOG ) Random Life Post

I am sitting out on my screened in porch . The cat and I hang out there he lays at my feet . Feeling the night air blowing on my face it seems to bring peace. Nattering away on my computer to friends. This afternoon I took my 3 mile walk run today to happen upon a mural . I've noticed it before yet today it seemed to jump off the street at me . So I felt compelled to share it with you. This blog like me is going through some changes. I'm always grateful to my PTB faithful for seeing me through all of this. We have shared so much here.  Change is something I fought a longtime in my own life, yet it is necessary to bring fourth the new chapter. Fear kept me in the mediocre conformity of my own making. Which honestly I didn't realize I was doing. I thought I was pretty progressive, in some ways I was. In other ways not so much. I finally woke up to see things for they way they are even painful things. Sometimes things have to get difficult before they get better. When you survive you feel more alive then ever. If you're going through changes of epic proportions hold tight it will get better. I just had a feeling we all needed this , in a world of uncertainty. Know that having your eyes open will help , you navigate the most difficult of paths. I don't know where all this change is taking me. Though I am happy and willing to do the work to see it through. We will finish up the eye shadow code Friday. Till then ...

Sorry been forgetting the songs xo ( Thanks Peter for this link )

A Spoonful of Chanel ( Pastel Punk Cruise Show)

image via Twitter

I almost feel like when we write about haute here on PTB. It would be compared to sneaking that spoonful of Nutella out of the jar at midnight. Honestly I've never been a fan of the body image issues that high fashion produces. Though I've always been in love with the artistry. I love too see where a designers imagination will go. You may love him or hate him yet you have to admit. Karl Largerfeild has one of the most brilliant imaginations. I've been watching youtubes of this show it even has quilted watering cans.Marie Antoninet inspired look , though I may see a dadaist muse peeking through. ( Kiki De Martparnasse ) I find myself drawn to spring shows because usually they don't have fur. I can actually enjoy them with out that gut wrenching feeling of horror.( Its hard to love fashion sometimes being animal rights )  I like the music the funky hair the french garden in Versailles . ( we all know how I adore french culture, the men wear scarfs)  So enjoy a little indulgence with me . I have the worst craving for pastel hair now.

Crack the Eye Shadow Code ( blending)

I put out a facebook post some weeks ago asking you a simple question. What in your cosmetic bag confuses you?  Never did I think eye shadow.  I understand completely with the overload of information out there . Telling you to use multiple colors then the charts that come with the eye shadow. I'm all about eye shadow diversity.  I want us to start off with one color . This will ease you into the process get your comfort level up with color. Before you know it you'll be using such terms as us makeup junkies use. " I love how pigmented that shadow is " . When you know the difference between a pigmented shadow. Then one that isn't you'll never go back to non pigmented shadow. We  will talk about that in our next post. Now to get our blending on with a video . My allergies were kicking . I edited it down to be simple . There was 10 minutes of me just talking ( Very scary indeed )

What you will need :  One eyes shadow , eye shadow primer , eye shadow brush ( if you don't own one its a good investment) for now a q- tip will do .

Reading your questions made me gear this post to technique . Allot of you said that you felt like every time you apply the eye shadow you feel you look like a clown. I could write a long post yet if your a visual learner like me . Here is a quick lesson on blending

1. Eye shadow primer . I like painterly paint pot by MAC . Apply with finger tip all over you lid and crease where the eye shadow will touch . There are some over the counter eye shadow primer. We know I'm thrifty yet splurge on this item.

2 . Apply the shadow of choice to your lid space with your finger tip. Bring the shadow into your crease . Yes I said finger it is a great makeup tool and most of us have one . I'm thinking this is where most of you stop. I use a brush in the video though feel free to use an applicator. I do advise the purchase of a brush eventually . This would procure the dreaded clown look.

Now Blend . This is the most important part of applying eye shadow. So its important to practice this get your comfort level up. I'm living proof, when I learned the magic of blending. It gave me the confidence to get a little experimental with my shadow . This step is crucial in mastering the smokey eye.

I just want to tell you it took allot of freaking courage to go on youtube. You have to push through the fear in anything you do. When you push through your own fear it helps others.

"Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free."

Jim Morrison

Practice this let me know if it makes a difference . Next time we will take the blending and additional color in. I wanted to start gradual.  The goal is smokey eye so fun to play makeup.

Sunday Funny : Bad Lip Reading ( Music Parody- Gotye))

My friend posted this you tube on my facebook page. Said it made him think of me . Seriously I had tears in my eyes laughing . Behind these creations are an anonymous Texas video and music producer .

"In a Rolling Stone interview, the producer behind the Bad Lip Reading videos said that he first encountered the technique of lip reading when his mother, then in her 40s, lost her hearing due to unknown causes. While she excelled at lip reading, he was unable to pick up the skill despite trying: "I was terrible at it." ( via Wikipedia)

They have branched out to do parodies on political figures , Though Id have to say that I like the music videos the best . Here is there most recent that was posted May 3,2012  featuring Australian singer Gotye's  hit "Somebody I used to Know feat Kimbra". The BLR verion is called" Kicked Your Monkey" . I've posted both videos for your pleasure. Thanks Richard for introducing this too me .

Random Life Posts : Making Lists

We have some new readers so a random life post is when I talk about my life in between posts . Im working on "cracking the eye shadow code "  Which I totally screwed the youtube up. So since my temp assignment is ending Friday. I'll have time to tape another . My trip to Salem recharged me in so many ways. I learned allot about myself. I guess when your single looking for love. You have to do the work. If you don't love yourself , who will ? This seemed to be a reoccurring theme of my weekend. So I decided to put self deprecation aside give it a whirl. Strange enough doing this has made me happy in so many ways. I've been in a good mood even things like my fridge dying and temp assignment ending hasnt really sent me in a tail spin. So I decided to count my blessings everyday. I've been making lists on my kitchen wipe board .

  • My refrigerator  died yet I cooked up the Pacific Northwest Salmon in the nick of time. I missed going grocery shopping so other than a gallon of Almond milk . I will survive . My apartment supervisor cant get a guy over till Monday. Normally Id be a bit shall we say pissy about this . Yet it will work out.
  • My temp assignment ended early. So this means I have time to work on my resume and get a job in a stable industry of business.
  • I have lost 46 pounds over the past year .
  • I can plank for 14 sec
  • I love my big eyes and elf ears
  • Duran Duran is opening the Olympics
  •  My cat loves me no matter what
  • My niece said my hair is pretty like Belle from the Beauty and the Beast ( she is tough at 4 years old)
  • I have a very unique blog I love it to bits and pieces
  • I found an organization who cares about colony collapse are making great strides in ending it .
So this is just a mere example of what I write daily . It helps me out allot in those moments when I curl up in a negative attitude. Which frankly will get you nowhere fast . I've rediscovered Julian Lennon's music which is amazing . I really have to detox off his facebook page. He has a picture with a man scarf that's all I'm saying .  So I leave you with a song off his new album. Also check out The The White Feather Foundation and the amazing they do around the world . They even help the bees. He also has a very sleek website. Easy to navigate seriously its awesome.  http://www.julianlennon.com/
Oh Duran Duran its okay I still love you bunches.

I've been singing this song for about a week now . Check it out !
