Diana at 50 ( Newsweek cover )

Blessed Mother Teresa with Princess Diana June 18 1997 New York

I've been in a blog block of sorts lately. Well when I got an eye full of Princess Diana's Newsweek cover . I think some how this opened the flood gates my block lifted. Somehow when Simon Lebon became afflicted with his throat issues.  Maybe out of sympathy for Simon. I lost my blogging grove. I'm here to report that Pop Trash Beauty got its groove back. So as many of you I have the big love for Diana. She is a part of the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Duran "  I don't think we could call her a Duranie she'd be more a Duranista Royale. I thought of her when the new album came out. She would have loved it and been as proud as we all were of the boys. ( they are all over 40 I should call them mens huh ? ) .

So enough about Duran Duran who I cant seem to blog without lately ( There was a time this blog had subtle influences of Duran )  So what do you think of this cover . I found it a little unsettling to be honest.  I just think to let her rest in peace as she was. She is an icon who was indeed the peoples princess. I think we all have this snap shot in our mind of how we want to  remember her. So what do you think ?

Strange Days Indeed ( John Lennon )

Walking through central park all I could think about was John Lennon. So much footage was taken of him there, of course because he lived near by. Walking through Strawberry Fields as a music fan. You feel this tug on the heart string . No matter how many times I go there. There is this feeling of " what if " that washes over me. I know I'm not alone in this sentiment. We all know John Lennon was a flawed human as we all are. Though he inspired many generations to create, use there voice. Open your mind to peace.  Music is one of those things that can touch your soul. As I walk through these couple months. Life surprised me in a good way. Somehow part of me wants to curl up in the complacency of "normal". When I know that even though change is sometime uncomfortable it's part of growing. I always have a song that seems to guide me through the change. I'm so honored that it is John Lennon. Do you have a song or artist, that has somehow helped you move through moments in your life? Ive posted the song lyrics along with pics.

Strange Days Indeed , Most peculiar MAMA whoa * sings *

Everybody's talking and no one says a word
Everybody's making love and no one really cares
There's nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs.
Always something happening and nothing going on
There's always something happening cooking and nothing in the pot
They're starving back in China so finish what you got.
They're starving back in China so finish what you got.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Strange days indeed
strange days indeed.

Everybody's runnin' and no one makes a move

Everyone's a winner and no one seems to lose.
There's a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu.
Everybody's flying and no one leaves the ground
Everybody's crying and no one makes a sound.
There's a place for us in movies you just gotta stay around.

Everybody's smoking and no one's getting high
Everybody's flying and never touch the sky
There's Ufo's over New York and I ain't too surprised.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these

Nobody told me there'd be days like these
Nobody told me there'd be days like these
.Most peculiar MAMA whoa

House of Style in the 90's

I think with all this talk of 1990's Super Models . I got nostalgic for House of Style in the 90's . I have to say this little show is the first place I learned fashion 101. Betsy Johnson, Todd Oldman to name a couple of designers. I was able to watch red carpet and recognize there work. For me it was key to understanding the fashion magazines. Even though I loved them as a teen. I didn't understand what was really going on. What was Haute Couture ? What are Norwich notes ?   I know we do have a younger audience so here is a little taste of House of Style from the 90's . I call it Pop Trash Beauty's training bra . So do you have a Television show , person , band , book that just cracked the world open for you?

Art : Pop Surrealism

I am not creepy i swear...

Blythe doll is an example of Pop Surrealism
( its amazing what collectors do with these dolls )

Did you ever like something not knowing the name of it . Without knowing it I've been a fan of lowbrow art since I was a kid. Perhaps even you are a fan of this genre as well. Tim Burton's work to me would fit into the pop surrealism genre. My favorite artist of the pop surrealist genre is Margaret Keene. She is famous for her big eyes paintings. Her paintings went on to inspire the hot collectible doll the Blythe. You most likely have seen her work .

Lowbrow, or lowbrow art, describes an underground visual art movement that arose in the Los Angeles, California, area in the late 1970s. Lowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. It is also often known by the name pop surrealism. Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor - sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, and sometimes it is a sarcastic comment ( via Wikipedia) Most lowbrow artworks are paintings, but there are also toys, digital art, and sculpture

I dont feel so bad when the artist in that last youtube didn't even know what Pop Ssurrealism is . In any token I love it wanted to give you a little taste of it . Now that you know what the genre is called . You will most likely see it everywhere .

So what is your favorite pop surrealism painting, artist, etc ?
