I always take you on my life journeys with me. I work in an office where I do allot of running around from day to day. Two inch heels is the norm for me or my fugly LL bean mary janes. Which my feet thank me for every night . With the concert approaching vastly I bought these lovely shoes by Paris Hilton.  People just think these heels are too cute for words. Ive been in training for over a week to rock them out. My high heel veteran Friends say I should have taken a month. The shoes didn't come into my life until last weekend. Seriously the out pouring of support has been so awesome. Here are some tips I got from the ladies . I feel like they have brought me into to a secret sisterhood.
  • Take two advil before you hit the floor
  • Walk slowly , its okay to take your time.
  • Wear them everyday four at least 4 hours
  • Buy the Dr Schol's inserts in the purple package
  • Kick them off when no one is looking.
  • Look straight ahead , Suck in your tummy
  • Come to peace with the fact they are going to hurt no matter what.

Ive been walking everywhere in them and decided to make peace with the fact I've commited to this . This is how I felt though

Why was I not suprised that Youtube was full of how to walk in high heel videos.

Body Image Post : Beth Ditto a Nortorious Songstress

Duran Duran had there Unstaged event Directed by David Lynch. The show was amazing visually stunning to this pop culture esk blogger it was epic. I don't know if I can even find the words. The crowd was electric . The guyliner contingent was top form and I found my self yelling at the computer " Yeah baby thats how its done baby " . (when I say stuff like this I'm glad Duran Duran doesn't know about us yet ) One performance that had me just all jazzed up was Beth Ditto singing with Simon Lebon Notorious. Looking gorgeous in houndstooth dress just made me smile. Beth is not only a brilliant  singer. She is also a plus size gal who knows how to get it done. Her bubbly stage presence was infectious had me up dancing take a look

I think sometimes when your a fan of a band who lets just face it . Is associated with loving the models and the aesthetic elite that I think genetics could only bless you with. It did my heart good to see beautiful lady curves grooving along Simon Lebon. Instead of yes yes insert genetically blessed 19 year old model to make me feel like shite. Beth was a breath of fresh air a sight for sore eyes. So you want to know more about this lovley ladie. You had to love her at the end of the performance she said "What a fucking dream"  Seriously I think at that moment all Duran Duran fans agreed to adopt her along with Mark Ronson who we adopted previously.

In February 2009, she was featured in London as the cover model for the premiere of Love magazine //via wikipedia
Here is what she said in a 2009 interview with Tim Walker for the Independent about her magazine cover.
"I don't think putting me on the cover gives magazines permission to go on [featuring straight, size-zero models]," she replies, when the idea is put to her. "Do you really think they need permission? If I weren't on there, I don't think they'd give a shit or feel guilty at all. Maybe they should feel better about themselves for it, but I'm not there to change the minds of people at magazines, I'm not there to soothe their guilty feelings. I'm there to make other people feel rad."

Isn't about time we feel rad about ourselves instead of bad about ourselves ladies. I will shake this size 14 booty quite proudly to that. Beth is the front women for the band Gossip. The formed in 1999 in Olympia Washington. When the girl punk movement was hot in that area of the country. The punk girl movement should be hot always. Gossip is Lead Singer Beth Ditto , Drums  Hannah Blilie   Guitarist Nathan "Brace Paine" Take a listen too there 2006 hit

I knew about Ditto's music I have too say I've been uploading some new gossip music into my ipod. Beth is an out an proud lesbian women who has been an advocate for gay rights. She is an activist for human rights  . As she said she want's people to feel rad about them selves. She is living proof that feeling good in your own skin shows shines through. Here is Beth on the runway at Paris Fashion week. I just want to remind you all we all come in different shapes and sizes. Even though the world we live in imposes these pressures remember you dont have to be a size zero to be beautiful . You are beautiful as you are now. I know the pressure has been getting to me something awful to me latley. Its good to get a refresher from Beth Ditto.

Face Painting Fun for Duran Duran ( Random Life Post )

Well as we all know Pop Trash Beaty loves to create makeup looks inspired by our favorite band. Well my creative little mind Just about short circuted ,when I heard of the Duran Duran webcast directed by David Lynch. Duran Duran called on there fans too participate. We were asked to paint a body part with non toxic paint. Photograph it on a black background. If choosen we'd have a shot at being in a installation created by cineamatic genius David Lynch. Here is an excerpt to explain a little more into whats going on Wednesday.

"The idea, according to Lynch, “is to try and create on the fly, layers of images permeating Duran Duran on the stage. A world of experimentation and hopefully some happy accidents." The band appear equally excited by the collaboration, accidents notwithstanding. "We are all such fans of his work and think he has a creative vision like no other," Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon said of Lynch. “We all believe this live-streamed performance is going to look nothing like anyone has ever seen before. We can’t wait.” "  (David Lynch to direct Duran Duran webcast : by Laura Barnett /The Telegraph UK )

This is my submission:To be able to create something for my muse was cathartic on so many levels. Id like to thank my duranie friends for encoraging me to do this. I love you all very very much .Who dosent like messing around with paint .

This webcast is surley not to miss even if your not a Duran Duran fan. You have to apreciate the popculture aspect of it . I will provide you with the detials below

Concert Fashion on a Budget

I wanted to take you on my journey. Looking for just the right outfit for a concert. Though being on a budget can really put a kink in your cunning plans. Yet I can give you some tips on how to rock out some pretty delicious looks not ending up at the poor house. The lucky thing for Duran Duran fans is that our band doesn't follow trends they make them. So originality is always welcome in our neck of the woods.

Establish a price point : You must do this set it at something you can obtain . This for me is 100.00 the object is too get as low as you can. I will say 100 but 85.00 will be my target range. This helps you stay on track will curb your urge to impulse shop.

Take Inventory: There has too be something in your closet that you can use.Why buy a new pair of black pants when you have 5 pair. See where I'm going with this .
Items you might have : Leggings , Cammie's, Belts , Blazers , Belts (ie. the cute blouse you bought on sale for something special. With the tags still on it ) I posted a youtube dont you wish you had her closet.

My item : Jersey Blazer that hugs my curves in all the right places. Hides the curves in all the wrong places.

Concept: Think of a look you want to have. Surf the web or look in magazines , check out people out and about. Its there something you like? When you have a concept of what you want it helps you focus. The Man Who Stole The Leopard captivating you, then rock out some leopard print. Sometimes you just want to be you just all shined up like a new penny. Having an idea will prevent more impulse buys. For example the blouse with tags still on it , we all have hanging in the closet. This is the last time I will mention the blouse I know you all have.

Lilly Allen with a little leopard in her with
hand bag gives a pop of color

My concept is  punk chic , I want my look to say just because, I'm 35 doesn't mean that I can't dress rock n roll. My challenge is a hard one its a slippery slope from punk-chic to cougar. I think we know I'm a frisky feline but not a cougar just yet.

Vintage/ Thrift : The biggest trick in thrift shopping is location location location. The best thrift and vintage shops are usually near college campus's for me. Especially when the dorms move out. The kids will be donating allot of stuff that they don't want to schlep home. You want to look where the shops are located because that's who donating. If you go to one near a elder community other then the jewelry the place is apt too be filled with granny gear. Its a hit or miss venture so keep your wits about you. There is big savings this is where having a concept helps. So you have an idea of what you are looking for.

Photo via : Street Style Aesthetic / Wayne Tippet

What I Buy : Sunglasses , Jewelery , Funky Print Tops, Dresses,Shirts , Skirts

My Favorites
Savers
Buffalo Exchange
Salvation Army

Borrow : If one of your friends has something cute ask too borrow. I usually lend them an item they have been lusting over. This helps you make a speedy return.

Off The Rack : I've always bought everything off the rack so this isn't a big deal for me. Some place you want to look Kohl's, Target , TJMAX , Marshall's , H&M,  all these stores have designer apparel for a fraction of the price. Make sure you hit the clearance racks. If you do Macy's , Nordstroms or any of those fancy pants places . Go directly to clearance you'd be surprised at what you can find.

Splurge Item: Something you have wanted for a long time. Pick this item carefully for it will most likely eat away at your price point. Sometimes its a scarf or a splash of Juicy Couture which I know Duran fans love from the bass player hearts. Try to buy something you'll wear again .

My Splurge : Punk Masters Shirt  I'm torn between two Velvet Banana or Synth & Sythabilty  cant have both . Which one tell me in comments below or tweet me @traceyjwhitney . Im also willing to wear one of our Duran Duran Inspired makeup looks let me know which one.

SYNTH & SYNTHABILITY

Tell Your Friends: The best sales are never the ones you hear about through advertisements. Its your gal pals who are out an about who know best. Tell them what your looking for your more then likely to get a call  for example
Flo : Hey Pop Trash Beauty, Kohls is having this killer sale this weekend. I got some pretty cute stuff .
Pop Trash Beauty : Really so glad you called lady.
Flo: Well I know you have that Duran Duran concert in a few weeks maybe you can find something.
PTB: That's great Flo , I love your style so I'll check it out
( yeah I think this is the result of too many coronet educational films)

Friends of Mine

These are the tips I use pretty much shopping for everything. I find as women we envy the Louboutin wearing lovely. Yet we worship the women that can say " You like this top ? I got it for 20.00 on clearance at Macy's" My best advice when dressing for anything. Make sure it makes you feel beautiful and makes you smile. A smile is by far the most attractive in least expensive way to accent any look.

Stay tuned as I show you my end result . I'm currently still shopping for the punk chic not a cougar onsom. Will I stay in my price point ?  I will also be taking snaps of Duranies at the Foxwoods show in a street style type wrap up blog post. So lots of fun and hyjinks to come on Pop Trash Beauty

The Beauty Parlor Confidential

Spring is almost here . Can't hide under the Hounds tooth any longer.

Men have the Barber Shop. Women have the Beauty Parlor as women of a certain age refer to it in the Boston Area. I got my hair done on Saturday in a little salon, a one room salon with two chairs and a nail bar. The room had a down too earth yet arty vibe to it. The stylist/owner was knowledgeable with current trend also very funny. I sat in her chair wanting a change in the worst way. Originally I wanted cherry cola foils in the worst way She shook her head no. Red is more fall you need light around your face, lets do some bronze, caramel, blonde foils. I’m going to give you wispy bangs , lots of layers to make you look chic. She wrapped my head in a crown of tin foil. While we talked about the Elton John Concert she was going too that evening. I also mentioned how I was going to see a certain band I love April 2.

This is me prior to the sassy cut. I was wearing the
bun for over a month . Dont I look like a happy camper?

One older women chimed in “I like Celine Dion , She has a voice on her “ I often think the beauty salon is our version of a men’s locker room. Where we talk about sex, lies, spanks, food. My cheeks hurt from laughing so hard as the lively conversation ensued. Soon my foils were removed, hair washed, layers cut. For me it was a metaphor for cutting away the cold dark winter. Letting the spring sunshine come on in. I wish you could bottle the feeling of fresh from the salon. You feel lighter and sassy with spring in your step.

I promised everyone a smile . look look there it is

So there you have it my afternoon at the salon. I didnt go into depth beacause what happens at the salon, stays at the salon.  The next piece will be about concert fashion for less. We spend allot of money going to these shows. Hopefully I will be able to give you a couple tips to take away the sting. Watch out Duran Duran by the end of this your going to have one awful hot mama comming to your show. Well there is an awful lot of hot mamas at any Duran show. I'll just be rocking it out with them. Lucky Lucky Wild Boys you are .See we always sneak them in , with the exception of the zombie ant post.

MTV Logo Story ( Happy 30th Birthday MTV )

Growing up in the 80's was interesting time in pop culture. There was an explosion of music, art , fashion. That was color infused to me magical. Seems they were color washing out the last decade. Getting full cable was big news in my neighborhood. I remember the occasion vividly the day the Cable guy was going to install cable. I came home from school to see our television outfitted with new wires. This large beige digital box on the top. Remote on the coffee table placed carefully on the TV guide. Did I say hello to my mother no I said " Mom what channel is MTV" . Little did I know at that moment Id be changed forever. Many of us were changed it was the    exodus from VHF to Cable. We were now wired .

I noticed that the 80's is a big trend right now. Allot of my friends kids are asking us about the old days. The way Id ask my mom about the 50's. I tell them back in the 80's MTV played music 24 hours a day. You could turn on your television there would be music. The MTV Logo was this bright beacon of cool. Launching many of the careers of many pop icons. The station promos were almost as popular as the videos. Where did the MTV logo come from ?

You would think some big splashy ad agency on Madison Avenue. Think again the logo was the the brain child of 3 struggling graphic designers. They started a company called Manhattan Design the name was conceived by the 3 owners Pat Gorman, Frank Olinsky and Patti Rogoff they wanted the name to sound like they were a well established firm. They were just getting by in an office in Greenwich Village. When Frank Olinsky ran into a child hood friend Fred Seibert who worked for a big corporation Warner Amex . The corporation was starting a 24 hour music station. This was very ground breaking at the time. Even though some of the splashy design firms had been hired. The 3 young designers to were given a shot at designing the logo.  Here is an early version of the logo . Though previous designs included obvious music symbols . I've included an excerpt that better describes the whole process in depth.

Design by Manhattan Design
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/deed.en

"They made some sketches featuring the letters "M", "T", and "V". Some of these sketches included Mickey Mouse-like hands squeezing the notes. At some point an outline drawing of a bold sans serif "M" appeared on a piece of paper. One of the three designers then drew dimensional sides to the "M". After that a variety of groupings of the letters "TV" were added. Everything seemed too normal-looking. Frank suggested that the logo needed to be less corporate somehow, de-faced or graffitied. " by Frank Olinsky to read more http://www.frankolinsky.com/index2.html

What was born was the logo as we know it today. Sure it has had a couple face lifts with the times. The Logo remains the same as it always was. The brain child of 3 struggling artists that became one of the most iconic music logos. Though my generation will say they loved MTV when it actually played music. Most of us have moved to VH1 in recent years or youtube to get our fixes. So do you have a memory of MTV in the 80's ?  To see the logo in its many phases please check out Fred Seiberts Flickr page. He really has a wonderful evolution of the logo. I will post the links at the bottom of the page. So Ladies and Gentlemen ROCK N ROLL !

Frank Olinsky designed the album cover for Duran Duran's Notorious Album . Check out his website you'll be shocked at how much of Frank's work you have seen or is in your very home.
