DIY Fashion Week

Here is a beautiful runway show to get you in the mood. Be on the look out for the stunning Yasmin Lebon wife to Duran Duran Lead singer Simon Lebon.

I know some us will not be going to the big apple for Fashion week . So here are some things you can do from home. To have a slice of the NYC fashion apple.

Pajama's
Buy yourself a fun pair . You know the goofy pj pants with grown up designs on them. You can get them at target for 10.00 dollars an up. I tweeted my Academy Award coverage in pair of very cute PJ's .Make them your fashion week pajama's darlinks.

Nails
Paint your nails with a NYC nail color Opi of course has some options.

Not Really A Waitress
My Private Jet
Flashbulb Fuchsia
Big Apple Red

Go to opi.com for swatches for these colors. It's fun to look at all the names of the polishes.

Fashion Night Out T-Shirts
Its a way of having your own little piece of fashion week. Even Barbara Walters rocked one out on the view last year. They go for about 25.00 to 30.00 part of the proceeds go to charity.

Ben & Jerrys New York Super Fudge Chunk

Yes Ben & Jerry's has a website (http://www.benjerry.com/flavors/our-flavors/#product_id=27 )Don't go there if your hungry . You'll be running out to the store before you know it. I didnt know about the new flavors. Will have to try for research .

Increase Your Fashion Vocab
There is a site I use all the time stylopedia . Especially during red carpet shows for instance. Wonder what a Flounce is ?

Flounce The flounce is cut from two circles creating a full flare at the hem and a smooth fitting line at the point at which it is attached to the garment

Bateau Neckline Also called a boat neckline; cut in shallow curve from shoulder to shoulder

Twitter

Last years hashtag was #NYFW for fashion night out it was #FNO
Jump in the trending some of your favorite makeup , hair & thread bangers will be tweeting live from shows an parties. Last year I felt like I was there. Its a good way to get a real life , real time look at all the goings on. One tweet last year had me in stitches when a makeup artist tweeted " Someone forgot to feed the models."  It was really allot of fun. I learned allot last year.

NYC Fashion Week Schedule

I'd print this out an post it to your fridge. Makes you feel like your there . Plus if your dying for a recap of Marc Jacobs show. You'll know when to start looking for footage.

Random Life Post : Pop Trash Zombies

There is a turning point when you know your blog is dead. We should be calling this blog Pop Trash Zombie. Statistically speaking we are dead as a door nail. It doesn't feel dead to me ? I get so many emails about the blog weekly. We have over 1,000 followers on the twitter page. So maybe its zombie land to some. To me its very much alive and kicking . Speaking of the twitter following this is for those who have been asking " Tracey where have you been ? "

  • Working allot of hours . I love it but I have to find the balance.

  • Annoying my friends an family on Facebook with youtubes like this.

  • Going to Concerts

  • Getting Bangs

  • Crushing on my barista

  • Playing Celebrity Liar at the Roomlive

  • Cooking lessons from The Single Chef at the Roomlive

  • Playing with Shark Food ( isn't the seal so cute )

We have NYC fashion week coming up. Also nipping at its heels Boston fashion week . So its going to be a busy time for the Zombie blog. We aren't going anywhere so stay tunned . This weekend I will post DIY fashion week for those of us economically challenged vixens.

Beauty Tips for the Economically Challenged

With the economic down turn things have been getting a little rough for most of us.  While you feel like the kid pouting in the corner once again. Just remember there are more of us pouting in the corner with you. Turn that frown upside down because you have options.

Upcycle : Go to a craft store find an easy jewelery making book. Use it as a tool to upcycle your jewely . Allot of us have broken bits of beads clasps right in our jewelry boxes. Fix an old necklace or bracelet. Take two pieces and fuse them together. People use everything to make jewlery check out this article for more information. http://www.alternativeconsumer.com/2009/01/23/upcycled-items-become-art-jewelry/

What I did : I took two broken silver long necklaces fused them together with a concert buttons. I copied a chanel look I saw in a magazine. I was going to a concert wanted to rock out something funky .

Clearance:  Is not a dirty word it is your friend. If you know even a little about fashion. You can take a basic your find in clearance an integrate it into your wardrobe. Go to the clearance section first. If you feel self conscience. Get over it you'll be happy you did.

What I did : I've found some of the cutest blazers , pants, sweaters rooting through the clearance racks. I try to buy pieces that accent what I already have.

Thrift / Consignment : I love thrift more than you know. People like to say they just go there for a " Halloween Costume"  may mock it a little bit. Don't listen to them get your thrift on . Its a hit or miss situation keep with it . Allot of times if you donate you get a percentage off your next purchase. Some stores even pay cash for your clothes. Buffalo Exchange and Savers are two chains that are hitting the main stream. If your so worried about what people will say. Just call it vintage.

This is the Scarf & Dress
What I did : I bought a black A line cocktail dress for 15.00 . I went to a Christmans party an used a gold beaded scarf to wrap around me.

Makeup :  Over the counter makeup & skincare have come a long way. There is one classic  St. Ives Apricot Scrub which is proof you can find good stuff over the counter.  While looking for your lower cost alternatives got to Total Beauty.com They have a wide range of reviews on products. Check out there article   Best Drugstore Mascaras  What I found there is allot of real everyday people giving there honest opinion. Even though you may have to do a little more research its worth it .

What I do : Look in the sunday paper advertisements clip coupons. Chains like CVS offer extracare bucks. Look at your reciepts sometimes there are great deals where you can get anywhere from 3.00 to 10.00 off a purchase.

The Attack of Blog Block ...

At times like this when I see this long lists of drafts . Don't feel like posting any of them. There just not ready yet . Blog Block has crept in taking a hold of me . I've had a hectic week which there is definitely a blog in there somewhere.

Song Jimmy Eats World / In The Middle

Book / Poem

Where the Sidewalk Ends

There is a place where the sidewalk ends

And before the street begins,

And there the grass grows soft and white,

And there the sun burns crimson bright,

And there the moon-bird rests from his flight

To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black

And the dark street winds and bends.

Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow

We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,

And watch where the chalk-white arrows go

To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,

And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,

For the children, they mark, and the children, they know

The place where the sidewalk ends.

Shampoo Comercial Beauties

When finding these squeaky clean commercial gems. I had the daunting task of picking which ones would make it to the blog. I learned something too doing this blog Farrah Fawcett had a shampoo. Makes me think Jennifer Anniston should have cashed in on the "Rachel" hair style with her own shampoo. Entertaining to watch there shiny squeaky clean manes of gorgeous hair. Inspires me to master a signature hair flip. So sit back enjoy have some good clean fun. My favorite is the Lustre Creme shampoo. Click on the other Lustre Creme commercials. They are really swell..

Frenzied About Shark Week

We are celebrating some shark love this week . In some communities in Cape Cod Massachusetts. Shark week is the real deal this past week. So here are my picks for some shark week fun. Also providing some information how you can help in the conservation efforts of the Sharks you love.

Conservation
Consumption of Sharks and Their Fins

                                                     Photo Via / allcreatures.org

"Increasing numbers of shark species are threatened with extinction, being listed either on the The World Conservation Union (IUCN) Red List, or the Appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). In 1996 only 15 shark and related species were considered threatened; this has soared by 8 times in only a decade and by 2008 over 120 species were considered threatened. The demand for sharks and particularly their fins has been one of the main factors driving global shark fisheries." ( via / World Wild Fund )

What You Can Do

•Stop eating real shark fins. Tell your host in advance of banquets and corporate functions where shark fins are likely to be served that you do not want this dish;

•Consider eating artificial shark fin products as an alternative;

•Check against the WWF Seafood Guide before purchasing seafood. Reject those in the “Avoid” category, and play your part in saving our oceans.

Random Life Post : Pop Trash Beauty Unplugged

This is my way of touching base with all of you. Do you like our new Twitter Round up ?  I am hearing that you either really love it or hate it. We are still working on it . Usually I pick my links on the basis that they have stuck with me the whole day. Links I go back and re-read or make me laugh.

So as most of you know I've been unplugged for a couple of days. No cell , computer what have a taken from this precious time.
  • I don't know any one's phone #
  • Pay Phones still exist
  • I suffer from text envy
  • I had to talk to people in lines , instead of intently reading my phone.
  • The phone book is useful for finding phone numbers
  • Twitter, Facebook other social media sites press on without me.
  • I'm addicted to social media in the worst way ( its not a fad ! )

After day two I actually liked it a little bit. When your unplugged from the tech world doesn't mean the emails don't still show up. I've spent most of today playing catch up.Messy desk shot.

So other than playing catch up things are great here at Pop Trash Beauty. I haven't heard this song in forever makes me smile. Thought it would be a nice song to close with. We will be back on track on monday !
